Overview
The Tuxedo Urchin (Mespilia globulus) is a species of sea urchin that has formal looking blue bands separating its short, multicolored spines. Available in two color varieties, the Red Tuxedo Urchin has dramatic red spines in contrast to the Blue Tuxedo, which showcases darker blue. Mostly nocturnal, they will hide out in the rock work, coming out at night to consume all sorts of nuisance algae from hard to reach places.
It’s not uncommon for urchins to spawn while in transit. If you notice a cloudy substance or unusual behavior when your urchin arrives, don’t worry! This is a natural response to the stress of shipping and not a sign the urchin is doing poorly. Simply acclimate it as usual, and it should settle into your tank just fine.
